As a Beaches Mom, I was compensated for this trip through a discounted stay at Beaches Resorts Negril.
Happy kids, happy vacation for everyone, am I right, fellow family travelers? Well, the happiest I’ve seen my kids this side of Walt Disney World is the five incredible days we spent at breathtaking Beaches Resorts in Negril, Jamaica as I attended Social Media on the Sand Conference with the honor of being a Beaches Mom again. What 4 and 6 year old wouldn’t love to hang out with the gang from Sesame Street? Beaches Resorts’ exclusive relationship with Sesame Street allows kids of all ages to meet and do activities with the lovable Sesame Street Characters at any of the beautiful Beaches Resorts. Here’s 4 ways your kids can make memories with Sesame Street at Beaches Resorts:
Character Tuck In
I will never forget the look on my kids faces when they answered the knock at our Beaches Resorts room door and there stood Cookie Monster and one of the Camp Sesame Nannies. As I was planning our trip, I wanted to make it extra special and was so excited to find the Night Night, Sleep Tight with Sesame Street package. It is an add on at the rate of $85 for the first child and $30 for each additional child. The package includes 15 minutes with the character of your choice (based on availability), a 5×7 photograph to remember the tuck in by, and a Sesame Street plush toy (which mine are still sleeping with!). I booked the tuck in ahead of time on the Beaches tuck in page so that we would be sure to get the day and time and character we wanted since the Beaches conference agenda was chock full of fun activities for the family. Cookie did some relaxing stretches with them and the nanny sang them a lullaby and read them a story which my little early reader took over much to the surprise of the nanny. 🙂
The kids and I were traveling to Beaches solo because unfortunately my husband was not able to take the time off a project at work. From my wonderful experience at Beaches Turks and Caicos last year I knew the kids would be in excellent hands at Camp Sesame and doing things they could only dream about while I was learning at conference sessions. I also knew they could accommodate my son’s special needs if necessary. (We did get an amazing one on one helper for him which I will share about in another post.) Beaches Resorts childcare staff are certified international nannies each with a minimum of 2000 hours of experience. The amazing daily activities at Camp Sesame had them groaning and asking to stay a little longer when I came to pick them up. While you enjoy pristine beaches or lounging by the pool your children can have fun with:
Bird Watching With Big Bird
When you check into Beaches one of the things you can pick up is a pamphlet for kids camp activities by age group. One of the things on my kids must do list was bird watching with Big Bird. I wanted to go bird watching with Big Bird too! I was free from conference sessions at that time and the Beaches staff let me tag along for the cutest bird watching trip ever. The nannies handed out safari vests and hats and binoculars for the kids to spot fine feathered friends. We all followed Big Bird around the property watching for birds and occasionally we would stop and the nannies would share pictures of local birdlife or sing a song. We didn’t spy a lot of birds, but I spied a group of kids having a ball with Big Bird and learning about nature.
Baking Cookies with Cookie Monster
We continued our fun with our pal Cookie by doing what else? Baking cookies with him! Again, I crashed this session because I couldn’t not watch my kids bake cookies with Cookie Monster. Haha! There were plenty of aprons and chefs hats for everyone. I loved that the Beaches nannies talked to the kids in terms they could understand about all the time foods like fruits and vegetables and sometimes foods like the cookies they were making. They also talked to the kids about the ingredients and how they worked together to make the cookies. Everyone got a chance to stir and measure and then Cookie disappeared for just a bit (The kids mixed them on the Camp Sesame patio.) and returned with warm delicious cookies!
Bird Watching with Big Bird and Making Cookies with Cookie Monster are only two of the many fun Sesame Street character activities the kids do while in camp. They also did Explore With Grover, Counting with the Count, Recycling with Oscar, Puppet Making with Elmo and more! See why they didn’t want me to pick them up? Haha!
Instead of watching Sesame Street on TV with breakfast, at Beaches you can have breakfast with the Sesame Street characters themselves! The character breakfast is one big party with balloons, hats, goodie bags, face painting, balloon animals, music, and of course breakfast and the characters.
Breakfast consisted of a beautiful buffet with sweet and savory dishes and even some adorable Sesame Street themed treats. Each of the characters came in and made their way around to all of the tables for hugs and photo opps. Be patient. Each character goes to each table.
The character breakfast is 45 minutes and each child gets a balloon, a souvenir cup, and a finger puppet along with lots of hugs and high fives from the characters. Prices range from $12 per adult and $16 per child to $99.99 for the deluxe family package. The Sesame Street character breakfast is a great way to start your morning with sunny days keeping the clouds away!
Beach Photo Session
I am embarrassed to admit I am not the best about scheduling professional photos for my children. I am a total mamarazzi and take photos of them daily but I don’t schedule portrait sessions for them the way I should. When I saw Beaches offers the option for your kids (or family) to do photos on the beach with the whole Sesame Street gang, how could I not do that? And I’m so glad I did.
How often would we get the chance to take photos with Sesame Street friends on a gorgeous beach in Jamaica? We booked the session before we arrived and I picked a few comfy and casual outfits that I thought would coordinate well with the characters. We met the photographer near the beach and he walked us out to where he wanted to shoot and we waited for our Sesame Street friends to arrive. FYI the whole Sesame Street gang on the beach causes quite a spectacle and so naturally other families come over so be prepared to be patient. The photographer did a fairly good job of balancing not leaving a bad impression to other children of their favorite characters and reminding them we paid for the session.
The photographer was very open to any requests and made sure to get group photos and individual photos with favorites. Caitlin’s photo with Abbie is one of my favorites she’s ever taken. The photos are bright, beautiful, and whimsical and everything we hoped for. I have ordered prints to frame with white frames and hang in our playroom. The 15 minute photo session is a very reasonable $50 and one 8×10 is included but we loved them so much we bought more as part of a photography package which included tuck in, character breakfast, and other unforgettable memories.
My kids are still talking about the wonderful memories they made with the Sesame Street gang at Beaches Negril and wondering when they can go back. They also talk about the caring staff at Beaches and still mention a few by name. That says just as much to me as the priceless looks on their faces in the character experiences.
