Thank you Johnsonville for partnering with me on this easy recipe with my kiddos.
Easy Sausage Croissandwiches are delicious savory sausage and melted cheese tucked within a buttery flaky croissant. So simple to assemble and a great way to get kids in the kitchen helping with breakfast or brunch.
Next week at the kids’ schools I’m attending a little breakfast in honor of Mother’s Day. The teachers are also talking about ways to do something nice for mom and one of the things they mentioned was helping make breakfast for mom. They both love to cook and attended their first cooking class last month where they made waffles. My husband who will be helping them make the Mother’s Day breakfast, however, has never made waffles let alone made waffles with two mini chefs. Instead we did a dry run this week on something a little simpler but no less delicious. These sausage croissandwiches really let the kids get a hands on experience in the kitchen and the end result is perfect for a protein packed Mother’s Day breakfast that they can be proud of.
You will need: One package of Johnsonville Fully Cooked Breakast Sausage, one box of large croissants from your grocery store’s bakery, assorted slices of your favorite cheeses. Not only do Johnsonville’s Fully Cooked Breakfast Sausages have that great Johnsonville flavor, they can be done in the microwave so no standing over a hot skillet with littles who want to help. They are easy enough that if your older kids can operate a microwave they can make the croissandwich themselves.
A grown up will heat up the Johnsonville Fully Cooked Breakfast Sausage according to package instructions then chop them into bite size pieces. 3/4 of a link or patty will fill one croissant as a guide for how many links or patties to heat up. The links were too long for the croissants so cutting them into smaller pieces works best.
A grown up will cut the cheese into approximately 1 inch by 2 inch rectangles. I bought a small cheese party platter because it contained a variety of cheeses and they were already cut up but you can use any sliced cheese. The Vermont Maple Johnsonville Fully Cooked Breakfast Sausage is a great pairing with Swiss.
A grown up will make a slit down the top of the croissant without actually cutting it apart. I found making a pocket with the top of the croissant worked much better than splitting it down the side but do what works with the croissant you have.
Now the fun begins! Kids will gently pull the croissants open to put approximately three pieces of the Johnsonville sausage into the pocket.
Kids will then tuck the cheese inside the croissandwich. Use the swiss cheese holes to play peekaboo is completely optional as is wearing an Elsa hat. 🙂
Grown ups will microwave the croissandwiches for approximately 20 seconds until the cheese is melted and then help the kids plate the croissandwiches and pair with mom’s favorite fruit and juice or coffee.
Kids will serve mom a delicious breakfast or brunch that they helped make with love. Happy Mother’s Day fellow moms!
