I have a confession to share with you. Even though I love to cook I really don’t like to grocery shop. I really dreaded it when my kids were a baby and a toddler. I tried to plan it so I could go on my own and have my husband watch the kids but sometimes he travelled and that just wasn’t possible. If my groceries could magically appear in the back of my car I would be one happy camper. Well, now they can. With my client Walmart’s new free Grocery Pick Up Service, I do practically nothing and the groceries are in the back of my van. I used the service for my weekly shopping and I used some of the groceries to make an ah-mazing easy potato skins recipe.
Here’s My Favorite Way to Grocery Shop
Step 1: Load your cart.
This is how I grocery shopped this week and how I will grocery shop every week from now on. I brought up Walmart Grocery on my phone, turned on Pioneer Woman, and loaded my cart right from my couch based on my meal plan and pantry list. I checked off each item on my grocery list as I did just the way I would if I went to the store.
You can search by brand name or item and they have almost everything you would find if you were actually pushing your cart through Walmart shopping. From a fresh fajita vegetable pack that I used for my game day recipe below to the overnight diapers for my little, they had everything I needed. Fresh milk? Yes. Meat? Yep, that too. All the fresh and dry goods were there. I loaded it all in my cart while Ree helped. Just kidding! If you have something you buy every week, you can favorite it to save even more time.
Step 3: Pay and schedule your pick up.
You can pay right on your phone as well and select your nearest store and set up a pick up time that’s convenient for you. You will get a confirmation email with your receipt and confirmation of your scheduled pick up time. If you place your order early in the day with four hours notice you can pick up your groceries the same day. I ordered around 4 PM and chose an early morning pick up slot for the next day.
Step 3: Pick Up
Walmart will call you when your order is ready and you will give them a call back when you’re 15 minutes away to give them time to get it all on a cart and get your cold stuff ready. Pick up was easy and seamless. I followed the orange signs to the designated pick up parking spots, parked the Swagger Wagon and called the number on the pickup sign and gave them my name and parking spot number.
Within five minutes two friendly, helpful Walmart employees came out wheeling my grocery order on a flat cart. I opened the back of the van and they wouldn’t even let me help load it. If you’re wondering what will the quality of the fresh items be, one of the employees went over each package of meat and all of the produce to make sure they were to my liking. They also address any substitutions in the event the fulfillment center is out of anything. They let me know Walmart always substitutes up not down. Meaning they gave me a larger size salsa than what I ordered because they were out of my selection but I paid the lesser price. Or if they are out of a generic that you ordered Walmart will substitute a brand name at the generic price. You also have veto power over their substitution if you would rather not purchase it.
I had already paid when I ordered the groceries so within minutes I had finished my grocery shopping and was on my way home to get set up for game day. Walmart Grocery Pick Up Service is great for your weekly shopping but it also would be a stress free way to pick up drinks and ingredients for a party occasion like game day.
I brought two of my favorite foods together in this easy potato skins appetizer and it’s game day food nirvana. My husband and I had gone out for Mexican food the night before and shared fajitas which got my food blogger wheels turning. What twist could I put on fajitas for game day? Well, my husband is Irish so naturally everything comes back to potatoes. Chicken Fajita Potato Skins. Boom.
I was able to get all the ingredients for the Chicken Fajita Potato skins in my Walmart Grocery Pick Up order. I kept the recipe simple by picking up the Pre Chopped Fajita Veggie Pack and the Pre Cooked Fajita Meat. Easy potato skins recipe means more time for eating and watching the game!
- 3 pounds of Russet potatoes (about 5)
- 1½ cups of cubed fajita chicken
- ½ cup of diced white onion
- ¼ cup of diced red peppers
- ¼ cup of diced green peppers
- Shredded Mexican cheese to sprinkle on top of potato skins as desired
- Preheat oven to 400.
- Place potatoes directly on rack for crispy skin and bake 50 minutes or until fork tender.
- Turn once halfway through bake time.
- Place potatoes on rack to cool.
- While potatoes are cooling saute the onions and peppers and chicken in skillet with about ½ tablespoon of olive oil until the onions are tender and translucent.
- Split the potatoes in half lengthwise and scoop out the middle of the potato, leaving enough around the rim for the potato to keep it's shape. (The potato filling can be used for a casserole like this BBQ Pulled Pork Casserole and Potato Casserole, a side, or potato soup.)
- Add enough of the chicken and pepper mixture to fill each potato.
- Sprinkle the tops of the potato skins with the shredded Mexican cheese to your desire.
- Place in oven on broil for about two minutes to melt the cheese.
- Serve with salsa, guacamole, and/or sour cream.
You can use leftover fajita meat with this recipe or even sub steak fajitas or make some of each if you prefer. You can also adjust the onion and pepper ratio for your preferences as well. This recipe is also easily doubled if you need more than 10 potato skins.
Whether it’s for my weekly grocery shopping or putting together a game day party, I won’t be heading to the store much anymore with Walmart’s Grocery Pick Up Service. This service has been an answered prayer for some of my mom friends that have littles that can make a grocery shopping trip with them a challenge, but also a few moms in my special needs parent group use it so that they don’t have to get their child out and look for a special cart. As someone who is not a huge grocery shopping fan, Walmart’s Grocery Pick Up Service has me wondering where it’s been all my life. Save yourself some time and grocery shop while watching Pioneer Woman (or whatever your favorite show!) and sign up for Walmart’s Grocery Pick Up Service.
