My sweet little Caitlin loves butterflies and I kind of identify with that (admittedly pretty sappy) song Butterfly Kisses about watching your little girl grow up. Granted she just turned 2 so we’ve got a long way to go but it did plant an idea for a Valentine for her class. Last week I shared Ethan’s DIY Rocket Valentine which kind of lends itself more to rowdy little boys so this week is all about girly. Butterfly Kisses Valentines.
DIY Butterfly Kisses Valentine
You will need:
- Foam craft hearts
- Hersheys Kisses
- Valentine craft sticks (or decorated Popsicle sticks)
- Hot glue gun
- Removable glue dots
- Googly eyes
- Any decorative stickers desired
To Make the Butterfly Kisses:
Take 2 of the large foam craft hearts and over lap the points and glue them together. Repeat the process for the other 2 set of large hearts. Put the hearts just slightly on top of each other as shown in the photo below. Glue where the hearts are joined together on each side together so that the four hearts form one large butterfly.
Glue the craft stick vertically in the center of the butterfly wings for the butterfly’s body.
Next I put a couple of removable glue dots on the base of 4 Hershey’s kisses and placed 1 on each wing section.
Then I added the smaller decorative heart stickers to the butterfly. You can really personalize it with hearts, stars, conversation hearts, etc.
Next I glued two googly eyes to the top center of the craft stick “body” for the butterfly’s eyes.
Finally cut about a 2 inch section of the pipe cleaner and form it into a V shape for the antenna and hot glue the pipe cleaner to the back of the craft stick.
These turned out so cute and are super easy to make which is great if you’re making Valentine’s for a class or playgroup. The supplies are also inexpensive which is a plus! I am so excited to give these to my little girl’s class this year and my most important little 2 year old critic loved them!
