Family STEM Activity Fun
I love the idea of doing something special and fun just because. I said I wanted to do that with the kids more often this year. It really hit me how fast this motherhood thing is going when my baby started kindergarten in August. The surprise doesn’t have to be anything expensive or elaborate. The time together and fun are what they will remember not the cost. Zuru toys sent us a roll of their Mayka Toy Block tape. It gave me the idea for a fun family STEM activity- Bricks and Breakfast.
What is Bricks and Breakfast?
The Mayka tape arrived during the week. Between Girl Scouts and gymnastics I knew we weren’t going to be able to try it out until Saturday morning. Why not make it a brick building breakfast party? I picked the kids up Cars 3 and Frozen sets to try with the Mayka tape. A cute Lego table cloth from Amazon made for a fun space to build. I am all about keeping things simple so breakfast was kolaches, fruit, donuts, and juice. Let’s get this party started!
We got the whole family involved in the Bricks and Breakfast party. First we built the Lego sets. The team of Ethan the whiz kid and dad the engineer finished their Cars 3 Radiator Springs set first. Since they were so good at it Caitlin and I recruited them to help us finish our Frozen Ski Lodge. Then it was time to have some fun with the Mayka Toy Block Tape!
Mayka Makes Brick Building Even More Fun
What is Mayka Toy Block Tape? It transforms any surface into a base for toy building blocks, figures, and accessories! How cool is that? It can bend, go straight up a wall, and you can even cut it to size!
The tape is reusable and compatible with all leading toy brick brands. It worked perfectly with our Lego sets for our family STEM activity. We placed our Rust-Eze pit stop from the Cars 3 set right onto the gray roll of Mayka. Dad had the idea to use some of our large bricks to make an overpass for Lightening. Then we were able to bend the Mayka tape to make a loop de loop!
Mayka comes in nine awesome colors including pink which worked perfectly with our Frozen Lego set. I love that the Mayka tape gets my daughter involved in a STEM activity. She is using her imagination to create and build and developing valuable skills through play.
We used some of her Duplo blocks to create pillars for a ski slope for Ana. We then adhered the Mayka tape to the blocks and Ana was ready to have fun on her skis and sleigh. The Mayka tape came off both the blocks and the plastic table cloth with no problem.
A New Brick Building Tradition
We had so much fun with the Bricks and Breakfast family STEM activity that my husband suggested making it a monthly tradition. It must be the engineer in him. 🙂 What started out as something spur of the moment became a morning of making memories doing something together as a family. It’s also creative play that teaches and is made even better by Mayka toy block tape. This was a simple inexpensive activity that was a ton of fun. It doesn’t even have to be breakfast. Grab some of your favorite bricks and some Mayka tape at Walmart, Toys R Us or Amazon and have your own brick building party!
