So Many Fun Things to Do In The Palm Beaches With Kids
South Florida Science Center & Aquarium
On our first day we visited the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium for lunch and science discovery. We were on the trip with other TravelingMom families. We all got to experience the Science Center’s philosophy of “Science is exciting!”
Located in West Palm Beach, the Science Center welcomes visitors with their Aquariums of the Atlantic exhibit. Explore 10,000 gallons of aquarium tanks featuring native South Florida fish and wildlife. Kids learn about different Florida habitats and nature such as coral reefs through tanks of brightly colored fish and the Everglades with baby alligators.
Next. we moved on to the Discovery Center and Early Childhood Playground. My five year old daughter and the other younger kids on the trip loved this area. Kids can splash with a huge water table, create with a wall size Lite Brite, and have dress up fun. Parents can relax and watch in the seating area.
One of the highlights of the Science Center for my daughter was the beautiful and fun Conservation Course. Right in the Science Center’s backyard is a miniature golf course like no other. Designed by Tom Fazio and Gary Nicklaus this lush course combines miniature golf fun with natural Florida elements like butterflies and babbling brooks.
Visit the South Florida Science Center’s website to discover more fun things for kids in The Palm Beaches. Be sure and check out their planetarium, hurricane chamber, and their Science on a Sphere giant globe where we watched Tropical Storm Gert form in real time.
Lion Country Safari
Next stop for fun things to do in The Palm Beaches with kids was Lion Country Safari for a roaring good time. Lion Country Safari is in West Palm Beach and is a four mile drive through safari with over 900 animals roaming free. Zebras, rhinos, lions and more are within feet of your vehicle.
Pick up the informational audio CD at the park’s entrance for your four mile self guided safari. Then experience the kids’ excitement as zebras, wildebeests, ostriches and more are within inches of the vehicle. Lions, the park’s namesake, and chimpanzees are behind secured areas but still with wonderful up close viewing. Chimp Island is fashioned after Jane Goodall’s work. The park is actively involved in conservation and these Island’s are just one of their efforts.
Lion Country also offers wonderful animal encounters. We fed the giraffes and my daughter fell in love with these beautiful gentle creatures. Kids can also feed birds or enjoy keeper animal demonstrations or their petting zoo.
Your admission to Lion Country Safari also includes many fun after safari activities. As you can see my daughter loved the spray ground. I loved that there was a shaded area for parents to sit and watch the fun. Lion Country also has a charming carousel, a train, paddle boats and more included in admission. So theoretically your child “might” want to ride the carousel again and again. 🙂 Cool off and have lunch in Lion Country Safari’s restaurant which offered a variety of options.
Loggerhead Marine Life Center
One thing I found very endearing about The Palm Beaches was how passionate they are about protecting and conserving their sea turtles. They even have a rule no bright lights on the beach during sea turtle nesting season. If the turtles become disoriented they could turn back to the ocean and not lay their eggs. The Palm Beaches’ love of sea turtles was evident in the beautiful work being done by the Loggerhead Marine Life Center, our next stop.
Loggerhead Marinelife Center is an ocean conservation organization and rehabilitation hospital in Juno Beach, Florida. It is the only sea turtle hospital between Orlando and The Florida Keys. Loggerhead takes in injures sea turtles and treats and rehabilitates them then returns them to the ocean. They are all about rehabilitation and conservation but they are also about education. Caitlin loved the Children’s Research Center where she got to pretend to document and measure a sea turtle nest.
We were able to tour hatcheries and tanks and see these amazing endangered creatures up close. This beautiful lady below was almost ready to return to her ocean home. When a turtle is released to go home Loggerhead Marine Life Center has a going away party on the beach and the whole community is invited. How lovely is that? The Center also offers aquariums, exhibits, and learning programs. If you want to see the sea turtles in their natural habitat you can join excursions lead by trained staff. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is one of many fun things to do in The Palm Beaches with kids but is also a beautiful educational experience they won’t forget.
Boca Raton Children’s Museum
One the last day of our trip to The Palm Beaches it was overcast and raining. Not to worry though. The Children’s Museum of Boca Raton is another of the fun things to do in The Palm Beaches with kids and offers an indoor great time.
The Boca Raton Children’s Museum is the first children’s museum in The State of Florida. The building may be old with the charming historic 1900’s farmhouse, but inside it’s all about fun for the young. Children can explore with creative or scientific play and enjoy pretend play in the doctor’s office or grocery store.
Come visit for the museum’s daily story time under their adorable big top or channel their inner artist at their drop in art classes. The Boca Raton Children’s Museum also offers fun outdoor spaces like this shaded water table or a jolly pirate play set. This small but charming museum is one of the many fun things to do in The Palm Beaches with kids and a great way to spend an hour or two.
Rapids Water park
Rapids Waterpark is one of the best places to cool off and one of the most fun things to do in The Palm Beaches with kids. We visited Rapids Waterpark after a fun day exploring outside so we were happy to have over 30 acres of waterpark to splash and play in. We rented a locker, changed into our suits and went to explore the 35 rides, slides, and pools.
Caitlin and I played in the lazy river, jumped waves in the wave pool and had a great time at the splash pads for young kids. There are also lots of larger slides for older kids and the more adventurous. I liked that you never had to walk to far for concessions or a shaded place to sit. Loungers abound by the splash pads and pools as well.
Soon it was time for our adventures in The Palm Beaches to end. We had such a great time and loved our resort Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa so much that we are already planning a visit with the whole family for next summer. There are so many fun things to do in The Palm Beaches with kids. Discover them all on your next family vacations.
