Hi everyone! It’s Alexis from We Like to Learn as We Go! Today I wanted to share with you a fun and easy family Halloween costume. This is what we did last year and people loved it!
S’mores Family Costumes!
The hardest part to make is the Hershey Bar, but that’s still not that hard, so I’ll get to it in a second.
To make the graham crackers, take 4 squares of cardboard (we just used old moving boxes) and draw a dashed line down the center and dots on the sides to make them look like graham crackers. Then I just whole punched two holes on the top of each square and tied two of them together with ribbon. And done!
The marshmallow is even easier. Take two white pillows and tie a small white rope around the two sides of the pillows so it fits on your child’s shoulders. My daughter’s kept slipping off so I also sewed a small loop on the tops and bottoms for the rope to go through to keep it in place. Then just simply cut the string when you’re done to reuse the pillows.
Ok now for the harder part. The Hershey Bar. You’ll need brown fleece to make it.
I started by grabbing one of my daughter’s outfits to get the size right. I folded the fleece in half and then used the outfit to know where to put the straps and arm holes. I just used a white pencil to sketch it out. Fleece is pretty flexible so it doesn’t need to be perfect. Then sew around the edges and then at the top of the arm straps. You don’t need to worry about buttons or zippers because the fabric is so flexible.
Then I made a short little undershirt to go underneath. To make this top, I just used a peasant dress tutorial and just made the sleeves longer to make long sleeves.
I had my daughter try it on to make sure it fit. Perfect!
Then I looked up a Hershey Bar online for the right lettering and just sketched it out on a piece of white copy paper. Again, it doesn’t need to be perfect. Then using a craft exacto knife, I cut out the letters. Then I placed it on the body suit and taped it down. I also recently found a great way to stencil is by using Press N Seal! You can check out my tutorial HERE.
Then paint the stencil with white fabric paint. I actually used acrylic paint which also works, but I think fabric paint would be better.
And there you have a cute little Hershey Bar to match the S’mores family!
I also just entered our costumes into a homemade costume contest over at Crazy Little Projects. I would love for you to head over there and vote for me if you get a chance! I’m number 10!!!
